Co-captain Timi Molnar and Clara Espar Llaquet, the team's leading scorer were named the Co-Most Valuable Players of the 2015 San Jose State University women's water polo team.
Molnar, from Budapest, Hungary, was an honorable mention All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation selection. She was fifth on the team in scoring with 31 goals. Near the end of the season, she became the fourth player in school history to score 200 career goals and finished in third place with 212 goals.
Espar Llaquet, from Barcelona, Spain, became the first player in school and conference history to record multiple 90-goal seasons. The first-team All-MPSF choice was second in the Mountain Pacific scoring 94 goals. Also named the Spartans' Offensive Player of the Year, she set a conference tournament record with nine goals in a consolation bracket win over CSU Bakersfield and was the leading scorer in the MPSF Tournament with 12.
Senior Victoria Smith was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the third year in a row. The Vancouver, B.C., native also was fourth on the team in scoring with 43 goals.
Sophomore Donia Momen, who scored the game-winning goal in the MPSF Tournament's fifth-place victory over Arizona State received the Most Improved Award. Primarily a reserve utility player, Momen scored 13 times in 2015.
Goalkeeper Katelynn Thompson, a kinesiology major from Penryn, Calif., earned the team's Academic Award. Thompson was one of four Spartans honored as a Dean's Scholar at the University's annual Honors Convocation in April.
Senior Amanda Pike from Pasadena, Calif., was the recipient of the Spirit Award. Sophomore Cara Robinson and senior co-captain Dani Styles took home the LouStrong and Adriane Riddle Memorial Awards, respectively. The LouStrong Award is named for the late Lou Tully, the program's first coach who died in December 2013 at age 70.
Molnar, Pike, Morgan Small, Smith and Styles were honored as the 2015 Senior Class.
Junior Kelli Leabo from Stockton, Calif., and Robinson were named co-captains for the 2016 season.
San Jose State finished with a 21-10 win-loss record for back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in school history and eighth in the final national coaches' poll. The Spartans' RPI ranking of eight as calculated by the NCAA was the highest for the program in the last four seasons.
