SAN JOSE, Calif. - Despite Sacramento State's best effort, San José State's women's tennis team stayed undefeated with a 5-2 win over the Hornets Saturday afternoon at Spartan Courts.
The Spartans (4-0) wasted no time capturing the doubles point for the second consecutive match. Miyo Kobayashi and Justine Deleval got it rolling with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles before Gaelle Rey and Marie Klocker sealed the early lead with a 6-4 win at the top spot in the lineup.
Sacramento State (3-2) wasn't ready to give up, though. Despite going down 3-0 thanks to early singles victories by Kobayashi and Rey, the Hornets had a chance to pull off a comeback. Of the remaining four matches that the teams split, both Spartan wins went three sets and were tightly contested throughout, including 82nd-ranked Klocker coming back from a first-set defeat to stay undefeated in singles play.
The Spartans face their toughest challenges of the season next week when they travel to the desert to face No. 58 Arizona and No. 27 Arizona State.
