Jimmy Pruitt, a two-time All-Mountain West honorable mention defensive back, became the third San Jose State University football player to sign a National Football League contract as an undrafted free agent following the 2016 player draft.
Undrafted and unsigned during the first wave of free agent signings the weekend of April 30, Pruitt was invited to the New Orleans Saints' rookie camp the weekend of May 13-15 and was signed to the team's 90-man off-season roster.
Pruitt joins former San Jose State cornerback Christopher Owens as defensive back candidates for the Saints in 2016. Owens completed his eighth season in the NFL after signing with New Orleans just past the midpoint of the 2015 season.
Pruitt, cornerback Cleveland Wallace, III, and long snapper Ryan DiSalvo are the three Spartans from the 2015 AutoNation Cure Bowl champion team to sign a NFL contract as an undrafted free agent. Running back Tyler Ervin, a fourth round pick of the Houston Texans, and offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer, the Atlanta Falcons' sixth round pick, were selected on the third day of the NFL Draft.
