Stanford, Calif. - With a seventh-place finish in a time of 20:42.5, Jennifer Sandoval picked up her second top-10 finish in her first two collegiate races and led the San José State women's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Spartans opened the season with a fourth-place finish at the San Francisco Invitational on September 3 and had not competed since then, but five of head coach Brad Wick's runners lowered their times from that meet.
Sandoval was top placed for SJSU and finished the 6k Stanford course 28 second faster than her previous race. Jeanette Zambrano crossed the line in 22nd place, in 21:29.9, trimming 32 seconds off her season-best.
Adilene Aldapa, Karina Nunes and Ashley Cahalan finished in 42nd place (22:12.5), 47th place (22:28.4) and 68th (23:00.7), respectively. Aldapa sliced 29 seconds, Nunes 13 seconds and Cahalan 38 seconds of their times at the San Francisco Invitational.
Jacqueline Escalera finished in 88th place in 23:38.7 and Camilla Hanson was 114th in 24:23.0.
Host Stanford earned the win with 37 points. Cal Poly (46 points), UC Santa Barbara (129 points), SJSU (164 points) and Simon Fraser (165 points) completed the top five.
