Series history: Boise State leads the series, 12-0. The series history between these teams began in 1978 with the Broncos posting a 30-15 victory. Boise State is 6-0 in the games played in Albertsons Stadium and have scored no fewer than 38 points in any of the six wins. The closest outcome on the scoreboard was the 38-21 Bronco victory in Boise on October 15, 2005. This year's game is the seventh time the Spartans are facing a nationally-ranked, top-25 Boise State team. On November 4, 2000, San Jose State defeated unbeaten and #9-ranked TCU featuring LaDainian Tomlimson, 27-24, in CEFCU Stadium.
Last win over a ranked opponent: San Jose State's win over undefeated and nationally-ranked #16-Fresno State, 62-52 on November 29, 2013, is the program's last victory over a nationally-ranked opponent. Since then, the Spartans faced one Associated Press nationally-ranked opponent, #5-ranked Auburn on September 6, 2014 and lost 59-13.
Last road win over a ranked opponent: San Jose State's last victory over an Associated Press nationally-ranked opponent as a visiting team was a 30-22 triumph over #10-Baylor on November 1, 1980. That Baylor team featured Pro and College Football Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary. Since then, the Spartans were the road team against 33 Associated Press nationally-ranked opponents at the time of the game.
No turnovers lately: San José State enters the Boise State game playing 12 consecutive quarters, 216 offensive plays and three complete games without committing a turnover. The last time the Spartans gave away the football was on a pass interception in the fourth quarter of the October 8 loss to Hawai'i. The Spartans' are tied for 23rd among Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools with 16 turnovers gained. San José State now is in its ninth week of being in the top-25 for turnovers gained. The Spartans were as high as sixth nationally following games played through September 10 and September 17.
Five different offensive line combinations in October: In each of the last five games, San Jose State started a different offensive line combination. No player started at the same position in all of the five games.
All-season starters: After nine games, only three Spartans, OL Jeremiah Kolone, RB Shane Smith and DT Owen Roberts, started in every game. Crawley & Hartley go for 100 receiving yards: The October 29 UNLV win marked the first time since the 2013 season-ending triumph over then-undefeated and nationally-ranked #16 Fresno State that at least two Spartans had 100 or more receiving yards in a game. Senior Tim Crawley had a career-high 114 receiving yards on eight receptions. Sophomore Tre Hartley had his first 100-yard receiving game at the major college level with 104 yards and two touchdowns on five catches.
Long-gaining pair: San José State wide receivers Justin Holmes and Tre Hartley are ranked among the top-50 players in the Football Bowl Subdivision for yards per reception in games played through October 29. While there are six pairs of players from the same school in the top-50, Holmes and Hartley are one of two duos with at least 20 receptions each for a yard per catch average of 17.3 or more.
