Returning to team stroke play action, San Jose State University is one of 15 teams entered in the Southwestern Invitational men's golf tournament at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
This year's two-day, 54-hole tournament on the par 72, 6,992 yards Lakes and Oaks courses begins Monday, February 26 with 36 holes and concludes with 18 holes the next day.
Besides San Jose State, the field includes Augusta, UC Davis, Denver, LMU, Long Beach State, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon State, San Diego State, SMU, Tennessee, UCLA, Washington State, and host Pepperdine. UCLA (22), San Diego State (39), Pepperdine (41) and Tennessee (48) are ranked in GolfStat's Top-50 teams in its February 20 rankings. San Jose State is ranked #115.
The Spartans' lineup includes Kevin Velo, Sean Yu, Matthew Murray, Sean Talmadge, and Vijay Srinivasan. The best four scores in each round will count to the team total. Velo is ranked 43rd nationally by GolfStat for his 70.27 average score.
San Jose State had a rare match play dual match with Nevada on February 19. The Spartans won, 5-1, with three of the six matches going to the final hole.
