Longmire, Sims & Iloanya - All-Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Honors

May 14, 2018

Colorado Springs, Colo.----- Sophomore Destiny Longmire, junior Kolbi Sims and senior Nicole Iloanya of San Jose State University received All-Mountain West women's outdoor track and field honors for their recent performances at the conference championship meet in Clovis, Calif.

"They all had a fantastic meet. Each one of them scored more than 10 points individually. I was really proud of them," said Jeff Petersmeyer, the Spartans director of track and field.

Longmire earned her All-Mountain West honor after she became the second conference athlete to win the women's long jump as a freshman and a sophomore. She had a winning leap of 6.24 meters wind-aided. Longmire also contributed points to the Spartans team effort anchoring the 4x400 meter relay to a school record time of 3:49.16, two seconds faster than the previous San Jose State best in 2015.

"For Destiny to repeat as a champion is fantastic," the Spartans coach said about the sixth athlete to win two women's long jump championships in Mountain West history.

Sims set a San Jose State record with 5,402 points in the heptathlon to finish second. Her previous best was 5,017 and she shattered the previous school record of 5,236 points by Jade Childs at the 2017 Mountain West Championship.

"Kolbi had her `coming out' party at the meet by scoring a 355-point personal best in the heptathlon, scoring fifth in the 100 hurdles. She had a fantastic meet," Petersmeyer said. Sims also ran the second leg of the Spartans' record-setting 4x400 relay.

Like Sims, Iloanya came up with a second-place finish breaking her own school record in the triple jump. Her mark of 12.96 meters exceeded her previous school best of 12.86 meters at the 2016 Bulldog Invitational.

"Nicole came back all the way back from a knee injury she suffered last year," said the Spartans coach about Iloanya, whose record-setting mark moved her into first place briefly during the fifth round of the championship competition.

All-Mountain West outdoor track and field honors were awarded to the top three finishers in each of the 21 events at the conference championship, May 9-12, at Veterans Stadium in Clovis.
