Spartans Place Well with Two Second-Place Finishes at Roadrunner Invite

Bakersfield, Calif. ----- The Roadrunner Invite is the second of two meets that the Spartans competed in this weekend. During the long-length meet, the Spartans had two second-place finishes from Gabriela Vieira in the 200 fly and Antoinette Loya in the 50 free.
 
Starting the day off, the relay team of Taylor Lehr, Angelika Yngson, Violani Auva'a and Gabby Heng placed third in the 400 medley relay. This event held continued success for Hang and Lehr, contributing to San Jose State's solid performance throughout the weekend.
 
In the 1000 freestyle, Erin Wayman finished fifth with 10:48.09.
 
Taylor Lehr finished ninth in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 1:56.01.
 
Angelika Yngson had a very consistent day, following up her relay performance with an eighth-place finish with 2:26.20. Chloe Limargo placed just below, in ninth place with 2:27.51.
 
Gabriela Vieira finished second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.49.
 
Antoinette Loya swam for another consecutive second place finish for the Spartans this meet, completing the 50 freestyle at 24.09. Gabby Heng finished third with 24.19, and Madelyn Sailors finished fifth with 24.44, following closely behind Loya for three top-ten placements in this event.
 
Gabby Heng had a very productive day, finishing among the top ten once again. In the 100 freestyle she swam in at 52.75.
 
The Spartans had two more high-placing times from Gabriela Vieira and Violani Auva'a in the 200 backstroke. Vieira finished sixth, with 2:07.23, followed closely by Auva'a with 2:08.62.
 
Erin Wayman completed the 500 freestyle, coming in at sixth place with 5:09.18. She beat her previous best time in this event from last weekend's Pacific Invite.
 
San Jose State finished the meet in the 400 free relay, with the quartet of Taylor Lehr, Kenda Guy, Gabby Heng and Antoinette Loya finishing third with a time of 3:38.36.
 
In the conclusion of the meet, head coach Sage Hopkins reflects on yesterday's meet and assesses today's: "I am very happy with our performance on Friday. We had many great performances and raced tough. Today's meet wasn't as consistent as yesterday and highlighted some areas to focus on in upcoming practices."
 
The Spartans walk away from the meet with both successes and points of improvement. They have three weeks of training ahead of them in preparation for their next meet at UC Santa Cruz on November 10.
