Nampa, Idaho----- Silvia Gutierrez and Jennifer Sandoval finished second in the weight throw and the 3000-meter run for San Jose State University in the non-scoring Bronco Team Challenge indoor track and field meet.
Gutierrez, a junior, had a season-best throw of 50-feet-2.00 in only her second meet at the major collegiate level. Her previous best was 49-feet-11.75 at the King Collegiate Invitational three weeks earlier in Albuquerque, N.M. Kendra Noneman of Boise State had the best mark in the weight throw at 55-feet-7.5.
Sandoval ran her first 3,000-meter race of the indoor season and led a Spartan contingent that crossed the finish line 2-3-4. She posted a time of 9:49.34. Jeanette Zambrano followed at 9:55.37 for third and Evelin Meza was fourth at 9:58.90.
Jayla Williams also had a season best and a top-five finish for San Jose State in the 60-meter hurdles. She was the #8-qualifier out of 38 and finished fourth in the final with her season best time of 8.83. A week ago at the Colorado Invitational, she was timed in 8.87.
Sarahvaughn King was a sixth Spartan to post a top-five finish with her fifth-place in the 200 meters. Her time was 25.52.
San Jose State wraps up its indoor track and field season with the Mountain West Championships, February 21-23, in Albuquerque, N.M.
