Sandoval A Double Winner At Rainbow Relays

Honolulu, Hawaii----- San Jose State University's Jennifer Sandoval was one of two athletes to win two individual events at the Rainbow Relays women's track and field meet at the T.C. Ching Athletic Complex on the University of Hawaii campus.

Sandoval finished first in the 800 meters with a 2:15.36 time and in the 3000 meters in 10:36.99. For the junior from Murrieta, Calif., it was her first race at each distance in the 2019 outdoor season.

Overall, the Spartans had five first-place finishes in the events they entered. Savanna Perez won the 400 meters in 1:00.34. Kai Bohannon edged out teammate Mikayla Akers in the 1,500 meters with a winning time of 4:45.11.             Sprinter Sarahvaughn King turned in a season best in the 200 meters finishing second in 25.05.  King was third in the 100 in 12.28.

"This was a very good weekend for our women's team. We had a lot of season best marks that came out of the meet," said San Jose State University director of track and field Kendra Reimers Gonzalez. Overall, there were 15 "season best" marks by a Spartan.

Despite the five first-place finishes and the number of "season bests," San Jose State lost to host Hawaii, 110-45, and to College of Charleston, 107-52. The Spartans accumulated the majority of their points in the distances going 1-2-3-4 in the 800, 1-2 in the 1500, and 1-2-3 in the 3000 meters.
