Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.—Maddie White and Abegail Arevalo won their matches today for the San José State women's golf team, but the Spartans fell to Pepperdine, 3-2, to finish sixth in match play at the Lamkin Invitational at The Farms in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
White trailed Hannah Haythorne after five holes (#9-13) but tied the match after she made a bogey and Haythorne had a double bogey. White went one-up with a par on the par-three #16, but the match went all square on the next hole with a birdie by Haythorne. White went back down on with a bogey on #3, but then made a par on #4 to square up the match. She then went one-up with a par on #5 and was two-up after an eagle on #6. Both ladies made bogey on #7 to give White the 2&1 win.
Arevalo never trailed in her match with Pepperdine's Momoka Kobori. Arevalo was one-up through eight holes (#7-14), went two-up on #16 after making a par while Kobori had a bogey. Arevalo then made a birdie on #3 to go three-up and won on the next hole with a par while Kobori had a bogey. Arevalo won the match 4&3.
Natasha Andrea Oon lost 2&1 to Pepperdine's Katherine Chan. Oon was four-up after seven holes (#8-14) but made four consecutive bogeys to square the match. Chan made a birdie on #1 to go up on, but Oon made par on #2 to square up the match after Chan had a bogey. Oon then finished par-bogey-par-bogey, while Chan was par-par-par-birdie for the win.
Alexandra Cooper lost to Hira Naveed 4&3, while Franziska Friedrich fell 2&1 to Patricia Wong. Neither Spartan led in her match.
San José State next plays at the Silverado Showdown on April 7-9, at the Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa, Calif.
