Kingsville, Texas—Julia Golbeck and Sarah Smevog remain undefeated on the season with two wins on Saturday at the Emerald Beach Hotel Classic hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Spartan team fell to Houston Baptist, 3-2, and ULM, 4-1,
Golbeck and Smevog, now 7-0 on the season, needed three sets to win against the Houston Baptist pair, 19-21, 21-16, 15-13. The two had the only point scored by the Spartans against the Warhawks, winning 18-21, 21-19, 15-12.
In the first competition of the day against HBU, Golbeck and Smevog won the first point for the Spartans, followed by Giulia Gávio and Luiza Andrade who won in straight sets 21-12, 21-18.
The Spartans are now 4-3 on the season and return to California next week three duals. SJSU travels to Sacramento State on Friday, March 8, at 2 p.m. The team then competes at Stanford on March 10 with duals against Saint Mary's at 1:30 p.m., and Stanford at 3 p.m.
