Spartans Second After Two Rounds At MW Championship

Rancho Mirage, Calif.—The San José State women's golf team fell to second place after the second round of the 2019 Mountain West Championship on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

The Spartans ended the day shooting a 308 for a two-round total of 607 and now trail San Diego State by nine shots. The Aztecs shot the low round of the day at 295 and are at 598 for the two rounds. San José State is just one shot ahead of third-place Nevada and two shots ahead of fourth-place UNLV.
 
Natasha Andrea Oon continues to lead the Spartans and is third on the individual standings at two-over 146. She shot a two-over 74 for her second round, making three birdies and 10 pars. Oon started par-birdie on the first two holes and then three consecutive pars before two bogeys and two pars to finish the first nine holes at one-over 37. She then made a birdie on #10 to go back to even par, a bogey on #13 back to one-over and a birdie on #15 to go back to even par. Oon ended her round with back-to-back bogeys to finish with a 74.
 
Abegail Arevalo is tied for sixth at six-over 150 after shooting a four-over 76 on Tuesday. She started her round with nine consecutive pars before going bogey-par-double bogey on holes 10-12. Her only birdie of the day came on the par-three #17, and she finished with a par on #18.
 
Antonia Malate is now tied for 17th at 11-over 155 after shooting an 81 in the second round. Franziska Friedrich is tied for 24th at 14-over 158. She shot a 77 on Tuesday, starting her round strong by going par-birdie-birdie-par.  Maddie White is tied for 34th at 18-over 162, after recording an 83 for her second round.
 
Final round action begins at 7 a.m. Wednesday. The Spartans begin the final round at 8:30 a.m. with San Diego State and Nevada.
