Berkeley, Calif.----- In the final regular season invitational track and field meet prior to the Mountain West Championship in two weeks, two San Jose State runners recorded personal bests at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational meet.
Junior Diamond Tabron had a busy second day of the two-day competition winning the 400 meter hurdles and posting a third-place time of 59.21 in the 400 meters – her first time under 1:00 in the event as a Spartan.
Freshman sprinter Alicia Johnson lowered her season in the best in the 100 meters crossing the finish line in 12.88, 0.26 seconds faster than her previous season best of 13.14 at the Woody Wilson Invitational two weekends ago at UC Davis.
Field event freshmen Silvia Gutierrez and Eseta Finau continued their good freshman years. Finau, San Jose State's first women's pole vaulter, turned in her second best pole vault mark of the season with a height of 3.60 meters, just shy of her season best of 3.63 meters.
Gutierrez surpassed the 50.00-meter mark in the women's hammer for the second consecutive week with a throw of 50.74 meters. She had her season best of 51.82 meters a week earlier at the Cardinal Classic.
The Spartans are not competing the weekend of May 4. The Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet begins Wednesday, May 8, and concludes Saturday, May 11, in Fresno.
