Oon Ties For Second, Spartans Sixth At Silverado Showdown

Napa, Calif.—Natasha Andrea Oon shot a one-over 73 to finish tied for second individually at the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Resort and Spa. San José State finished sixth at 888 (+24).

Oon tied with Southern California's Malia Nam at even-par 216. Oon made 11 birdies over the three rounds to tie for the tournament lead. In the final round, she was one-under par for her first nine holes (4-12) as she made a birdie and then eight consecutive pars. On #13, she made a bogey but responded with par-birdie-par to go back to one-under par. Oon then had a double bogey in #17 before making four consecutive pars to end her round.
 
Abegail Arevalo had her ninth top-20 finish in stroke play this season as she ended tied for 11th at five-over 221. She made par on her first 14 holes of the day before finishing birdie-bogey-bogey-par on holes 18, 1, 2 and 3.
 
Antonia Malate had the best finish of her young collegiate career as she tied for 23rd at eight-over 224. She shot a three-over 75 in the final round after opening the tournament with her best round of the year, a one-under 71. On Tuesday, she made two birdies and 12 pars during her round.
 
Franziska Friedrich shot a six-over 78 to end the tournament tied for 59th at 232 (+16). She made two birdies and 10 pars in the final round Tuesday.
 
Maddie White tied for 66th at 234 after shooting an 84 on Tuesday, making just one birdie during the round.
 
San José State shot a 299 in the final round of the tournament. The sixth-place finish for San José State is the best at the Silverado Showdown since the 2015 team also finished sixth. SJSU was the top finishing Mountain West team at the tournament (San Diego State 10th, Colorado State 15th, UNLV 16th, New Mexico 18th).
 
The Spartans will compete for the 2019 Mountain West Championship next week, April 15-17, at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
