Woodland, Calif.---- For the second consecutive season, more than 50 percent of the San José State University women's water polo team was named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic team.
In 2021, 13 of the team's 18 student-athletes on the roster, 72.2 percent of the Spartans earned the conference's academic honor. Nine of them were named Academic All-MPSF for either the second or third time.
To qualify for Academic All-MPSF honors, a student-athlete must complete one full year at the nominating institution, be of sophomore standing or higher and possess at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average.
Riley Agerbeek, the two-time winner of the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award for women's water polo; goalkeeper Hannah Henry; and field players Sierra Painter, Isabella Schmidt, Tyanna Supreme and Lili Urvari each earned their third Academic All-MPSF honor.
Juniors Olga Descalzi Portell, the Spartans' leading scorer in 2021, Sophie Spivack, and Clarissa Wandinger were named to the Academic All-MPSF team for the second time.
Sophomores Lior Ben David, Anna Maria Luther, Sophia Reyes, and Bailey Stubblefield are first-time Academic All-MPSF award winners.
