Cardenas & Moore Lead Spartans To Win Over Fresno State

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Alvaro Cardenas scored a career-best 20 points and dished out a career-high nine assists to lead the San José State men's basketball team to a 74-64 win over Fresno State Tuesday evening inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center.

  • Cardenas was 7-for-14 from the field including making a career-high six three pointers.
  • Cardenas dished out nine assists leading to 19 points for the Spartans.
  • Omari Moore added 15 points in the win, making six field goals including three from beyond the arc.
  • Moore also dished out eight assists leading to 21 Spartan points.
  • Cardenas and Moore were the only two players in the game to see action in all 40 minutes.
  • Ibrahima Diallo scored eight points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds in the win.
  • Diallo blocked two more shots in the game, bringing his season total to 39.
  • Two other Spartans scored in double figures as Sage Tolbert III had 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.
  • Robert Vaihola, playing against the school he transferred from after last season, came off the bench to score 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He also blocked two shots in 19 minutes of action.
  • The Spartans led from the opening tip as Cardenas hit a three-pointer off a Tolbert pass to give SJSU the early 3-0 lead.
  • The score was tied twice at 5-5 and 8-8, but the Bulldogs could get no closer than two points the rest of the game.
  • The Spartans lead by as many as 16 at 56-40 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game.The win over Fresno State ends an 11-game losing streak to the Bulldogs. The Spartans last win in the series came on January 7, 2017, in San Jose (69-62).  

UP NEXT – After a break this weekend, the Spartans go back on the road next week for games at New Mexico on Tuesday and at Utah State next Saturday.
