Spartans Fall To Sun Devils In Overtime Thriller

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Hannah Henry had 11 big saves, and Sinia Plotz scored three goals and added three assists, but San José State fell 10-9 to Arizona State on Saturday in an overtime thriller.

  • Clarissa Wandinger put the Spartans on the board first just over a minute into the first period on the assist from Plotz.
  • The Sun Devils answered shortly after, but Maiken Pardon put the Spartans back on top with a goal with 5:40 on the clock.
  • SJSU added to its lead with 4:31 remaining in the opening period thanks to a goal from Lior Ben David to make it 3-1.
  • It took nearly six minutes for a goal to be scored in the second period before the Sun Devils tied the game 3-3, but a goal from Kylee Jansen with 1:16 left before the half put the Spartans back on top.
  • Arizona State responded with the equalizer, but Kielle Leggo scored for the Spartans with 32 seconds left before the half to put SJSU up 5-4 heading into the break.
  • In the third period, the Sun Devils scored back-to-back goals to take their first lead of the game.
  • The Spartans responded with goals from Plotz and Lauren Woolley to re-gain the lead and take it into the final eight minutes.
  • ASU opened the final period with a penalty shot, but Henry made the save to keep the Spartans on top.
  • The Sun Devils tied the game at 7-7 with 3:41 remaining in the contest, but Plotz was able to score her second goal of the contest with one minute to go, putting the Spartans up 8-7.
  • Arizona State was able to score to force overtime, and then add two to go up 10-8 after the first half of overtime.
  • Plotz scored her third goal of the contest with 2:18 left of the second half of overtime, but the Sun Devils were able to hang on for the win.
