SAN JOSE, Calif.—Having recently clinched a berth in the 2023 Mountain West Baseball Championship, the San José State baseball team returns home from Texas for a three-game weekend series against Nevada from May 18-20. The Spartans will play the Wolf Pack in the final home series of the regular season, looking to secure the top seed in the championship which will take place May 25-28 at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium in Fresno, Calif.

SENIOR DAY

  • Senior Day will be Saturday, May 20.
  • 11 Spartans will be recognized during a pre-game ceremony: Dalton Bowling, Jonathan Clark, Jack Colette, Aaron Eden, Trevor Ernt, Jackson Forbes, Robert Hamchuk, Darren Jansen, James Shimashita, Nik Trapani and Jack White.
  • Team managers, Ryan Belluomini and Kenneth Buikema, will also be recognized.

PREVIOUS SERIES

  • The Spartans won one of three games at Texas.
  • Three Spartans had two-hit performances in the 6-4 win on May 12: Robert Hamchuk, Dalton Bowling and Matt Spear.
  • Bowling belted his team-leading 10th home run of the season.
  • Left-handed pitcher Jack White earned his team-leading sixth win of the season as he tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.
  • Right-handed pitcher Jonathan Clark started the contest and pitched 5.0 innings, allowing only three runs on four hits while striking out seven.

WHERE THE SPARTANS RANK IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST

  • The Spartans rank third in the Mountain West Conference in batting average (.278) and second in opposing batting average (.273).
  • LHP Micky Thompson is sixth in the conference in ERA at 4.75 and RHP Jonathan Clark is eighth at 5.04.
  • Clark is sixth in strikeouts with 65.
  • Two Spartans rank in the top 10 in batting average: Charles McAdoo is seventh at .335 and Hunter Dorraugh is eighth at .333.
  • Three Spartans rank in the top 10 in doubles: Dorraugh and Colette are tied for fourth with 17 and Bowling is tied for eighth with 16.
  • Matt Spear is tied for the conference lead in caught stealing with 19.
  • Colette is tied for the conference lead in triples with five and Hardy is tied for fifth with four.
  • Bowling is tied for fifth in home runs with 10 and is seventh in RBIs with 45.
  • Dorraugh is fourth in walks with 32, Hardy is fifth with 30 and Colette is tied for ninth with 27.
  • Colette and Jeriah Lewis are tied for fifth in stolen bases with nine each.
  • Dorraugh, Hardy and McAdoo rank fourth, seventh and ninth in on-base percentage with respective OBP's of .443, .427 and .413.
  • Five Spartans have received weekly honors: Jack White (May 8), Jack Colette (April 10), Charles McAdoo (April 3), Robert Hamchuk (March 13) and Hunter Dorraugh (Feb. 20).

VS. NEVADA

  • The Nevada Wolf Pack are 20-30 overall and 10-17 in the Mountain West this season.
  • The Wolf Pack are coming off a series victory over New Mexico in which they won two out of three games.
  • The Spartans are 2-1 against the Wolf Pack in 2023, winning the series between the two teams in Reno, Nev. from March 31-April 2.
  • McAdoo leads the Spartans with a .429 batting average against the Wolf Pack in 2023, having gone 6-for-14 in the series with three doubles and four RBIs.
  • The Spartans are 95-92 all time in series against Nevada.
