Spartans Win Mountain West Championship With 12-9 Victory Over Air Force

FRESNO, Calif.—
Right-handed pitcher Nathan Hansen tossed 4.2 innings, allowing only two runs and Hunter Dorraugh registered three hits to lead the No. 1 seed San José State baseball team (31-25, 18-11 MW) in a 12-9 victory over No. 3 seed Air Force (28-30, 17-13 MW) to win the Mountain West Championship. The Spartans avenged their defeat against Air Force in the 2022 Mountain West Championship game, earning their first Mountain West Championship in program history and advancing to the NCAA Regional for the first time since 2002.

  • Robert Hamchuk was named the Championship MVP. In five games, he hit 11-for-22 (.500), scored six runs, hit three doubles and two home runs and drove in seven RBIs. 
  • Hamchuk, Dalton Bowling, Hunter Dorraugh, Matt Spear and Jack White made the Championship All-Tournament Team
  • RHP Darren Jansen pitched 2.1 innings of relief, giving up one run on two hits while striking out three.
  • Matt Spear notched a three-run home run, his second home run of the championship.
  • Hamchuk recorded two doubles.
  • Nik Trapani tallied two hits, one of which was a solo home run.
  • Charles McAdoo and Jack Colette each produced two hits.
