No. 9 Spartans Head To Los Angeles To Face Two Ranked Teams

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The No. 9 San José State men's water polo (2-0) team will travel to Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday, September 23rd to face No. 15 LMU (4-2) at 10:30 a.m. and No. 13 UCSB (7-6) at 1:30 p.m. at the Burns Aquatics Center. 

  • Bence Szabo scored the game-winning goal to help the Spartans take down No. 4 UC Davis 8-7 at the Aggie Invite on September 9th.  
  • Goalkeeper Jaime Steingraf recorded nine saves in the match against No. 4 UC Davis.
  • The Spartans outscored the Mustangs in the third and fourth quarters after being down 2-3 at the half.  
  • Nikola Nikolic made three assists and scored two goals to lead SJSU in their 20-3 win against UC Merced on September 10th. 
  • Szabo was named to the West Coast Conference (WCC) Preseason Team.

VS LMU

  • The No. 15 LMU Lions are 4-2 this season coming off a 9-7 win against George Washington University. 
  • The Spartans have a 1-3 all-time record against the Lions. 
  • Their last meeting was in 2021, a 11-10 LMU win. 

VS UCSB 

  • The No. 13 UCSB Gauchos are 7-6 this season and are coming off a 13-10 loss to No. 6 Stanford. 
  • The Spartans have a 1-8 all-time record against the Lions. 
  • Their last meeting was in 2022, a 9-7 Gauchos win.
