Macpherson & The Beam Team Set Records Sunday in Win at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif.—Another record setting meet on Sunday for Lauren Macpherson and the Spartan beam team as the San José State women’s gymnastics team scored a season-best 196.600 to win a meet at UC Davis (195.275) inside the University Credit Union Center.

  • Macpherson tied her own beam school record, one that she holds with Emma Milne, with a 9.950 to win her fourth beam title of the season.
  • The Spartans set a new beam team record with a 49.350, breaking the older record of 49.325 set last year at Sacramento State.
  • Katherine Weyhmiller finished second on beam with a career-best 9.925, followed by Marissa Ashton at 9.875, Madison Kirsch at 9.850, Jaudai Lopes at 9.750 and Devyn Valuch at 9.525.
  • The Spartan team score of 196.600 ties for the second-highest in school history.
    SJSU recorded a season-high 49.075 on vault, tying for the fourth-best vault score in school history.
  • Mia Nelson tied for first on vault with a season-best 9.875 to win her first career vault title.
  • Jada Mazury won the bars with a season-high 9.900, and Olivia Reardon, competing on bars for the first time this season, added a 9.825 to finish second.
  • Mazury led the floor team with a 9.925 to tie for first as the Spartan floor team scored a 49.275.
  • Lopes and Macpherson each added a 9.850 on floor, while Natasha Forrand led the team off with a 9.825. Valuch had a 9.800 and Nelson had a 9.775.
  • Lopes scored a 39.125 in the all-around, while Valuch competed in all four events for the first time this season with a 38.750.

UP NEXT – The Spartans travel to Colorado next weekend for two meets. The team competes in a tri-meet at Air Force with Utah State on Friday, March 2, at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT. SJSU then competes at a quad meet hosted by Denver on Sunday with Lindenwood and Air Force.
