Spartans Get Hard-Fought Win Over Saint Mary's Sunday

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Jaida Ward and Jada Hall clinched the dual-winning point against Saint Mary’s as the San José State beach volleyball team went 1-1 on Sunday in regular-season matches at the Inaugural Sand Jose Invitational at Spartan Beach.

  • The dual against the Gaels was tied 2-2 as Ward and Hall began play at the No. 1 position.
  • The pair won 21-9, 21-18, to give SJSU the win.
  • Shirley Morrison and Anna Salmon fought hard and came-from-behind to get the first San José State point of the dual, 10-21, 22-20, 15-8.
  • Siena Brewster and Meredith Scott put SJSU up 2-1 with a 23-21, 21-17 win.
  • San José State then fell to Utah, 5-0, as two of the matches went three sets.
  • Ward and Hall won the first set, 21-11, before falling 21-19, 15-9.
  • Teila Allen and Cheyenne Rice forced a third set, falling 21-16 in set one, rallying 23-21 to win set two but fell 15-7 in the third set.
  • The Spartans also swept Sierra College, 5-0, in an exhibition dual to end the tournament

UP NEXT – The Spartans travel to New Orleans for the Southland Midseason Tournament March 22-24. SJSU will play six conference duals over the three days.
