Record-Setting Sunday For Spartan Women's Gymnastics

DENVER, Colo.—Jaudai Lopes and the Spartan vault team broke a nine-year old record and helped the San José State women’s gymnastics team set a new standard with a school-record 196.675 Sunday afternoon in a quad meet hosted by the University of Denver.

  • The vault team scored a 49.200, breaking the old record of 49.150 set at the 2015 MPSF Championships.
  • Lopes, the individual school-record holder on the vault, led the SJSU with a 9.900 to tie for first place. Madison Kirsch followed with a 9.875, then Mia Nelson at 9.825 and Lauren Macpherson and Devyn Valuch at 9.800.
  • The Spartans’ 196.675 breaks the old record of 196.625 set in a home meet with UC Davis during the 2022 season.
  • The floor team recorded the second-highest team floor score in school history with a 49.450. 
  • Jada Mazury led the floor team with a career-high 9.950. She is just the fifth Spartan to record a 9.950 on the floor. 
  • Macpherson added a career-high 9.925 on floor, followed by Katherine Weyhmiller and Natasha Forrand with career-bests 9.875, Lopes at 9.825 and Nelson at 9.800.
  • The beam team added a 49.200, matching their Friday night score. Mazury and Macpherson anchored the team as each scored a 9.875. 
  • The bars team started the meet with a 48.825, and led by Denver-native Sophia Konieczny with a 9.800.
  • Lopes was the team’s top all-around competitor with a 39.275. Mazury competed as an all-arounder for the first time this season. She and Macpherson each had a 38.825.

UP NEXT – The Spartans return to the Provident Credit Union Event Center for the home meet of the season on Sunday, March 10. SJSU welcomes Boise State, Illinois State and Yale for a meet beginning at 2 p.m. Children 12 and under are free.
