Spartans Host Quad Meet For Senior Day on Sunday

After springing aheads Saturday night, the San José State women’s gymnastics team hosts the final home meet of the 2024 season on Sunday as the Spartans welcome Boise State, Illinois State and Yale to the Provident Credit Union Event Center.

Sunday’s meet is designated as Senior Day and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.

The 2004 MPSF Championship team will also be in attendance at the meet.

Spartan seniors to be honored include Natasha Forrand, Madison Kirsch, Jaudai Lopes, Makayla McMahon, Lauren Macpherson and Jada Mazury.

  • The Spartans are ranked 31st nationally with a 195.995 NQS, Boise State is 26th at 196.480 NQS, Illinois State is 39th at 195.750 NQS and Yale is 59th at 194.210 NQS.
  • This is the second meeting between SJSU and Boise State this season with one more to come at the MW Championships
  • Jaudai Lopes and Jada Mazury were honored by the Mountain West this week. Lopes was named the Vault Specialist of the Week after her 9.900 to tie for first at the Denver Quad meet on Sunday. Mazury was honored as the Co-Beam and Co-Floor Specialists of the Week. She had a 9.900 to win beam in a meet at Air Force with Utah State. She had a career-best 9.950 on floor at the Denver Quad meet.
  • The Spartan floor team came within .100 of matching the school record on floor that has stood for 20 years. The Spartans scored a 49.450 at the Denver Quad, the only team to achieve that score on floor.
  • At the Denver Quad on March 3, the Spartans recorded a school-record 196.675 team score, breaking the old record of 196.625 recorded each of the past two seasons. This year, SJSU has recorded five top-10 scores in school history. The team score of 196.600 at UC Davis tied for the third-best score in school history. SJSU scored a 196.500 against Sacramento State in the first home meet of the season for the fifth-best score.
  • The Spartan vault team scored a 49.200 at the Denver Quad on March 3, to set a new school record on the apparatus. The team broke the old record of 49.150 set during the 2015 season

MPSF CHAMPS - 20 YEARS LATER

The 2004 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship team will be in attendance at Sunday’s meet. The former Spartans brought the first MPSF title to the program as San José State hosted the meet in Spartan Gym. The Spartans won the meet by over a half a point to Sacramento State, setting a then-school record 195.975 team score which stood until 2022.

Three Spartans won individual titles - Shirla Choy on bars, Amberly Klein on beam and Jennifer Greene on floor. Greene clinched the championship as she scored the program’s only 10 in school history. The final performer of the night, Greene recorded her 10 on floor to win the event. The floor team set the school record with a 49.550, a record that still stands today.
