COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— This spring, 107 San José State University student-athletes from 11 Spartan sports teams earned Academic All-Mountain West honors, as announced by the conference office.
The women’s swimming and diving team led the sports with the most award winners with 19 student-athletes, followed closely by women’s track and field with 18. Softball had double-digit student-athletes honored with 11, while women’s gymnastics, who joined the conference this past school year, had 11 gymnasts honored for the first time.
Five Spartans received the honor for the fifth time in their career this spring, joining football players Andrew Gonneville, Andrew Jenkins and Tre Jenkins and women’s soccer player Sabrina Weinman who accomplished this feat last fall.

For the 2023-24 academic year, 180 Spartans earned academic all-conference recognition from the Mountain West (16 sports – 158) Western Athletic Conference (men’s soccer – 6), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (women’s water polo – 8) and West Coast Conference (men’s water polo – 8).
To qualify for Academic All-MW, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic semester at the institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The student-athlete must have competed in 50 percent of the team’s completed varsity contests.
In all, 1,241 student-athletes have been named to the spring 2024 Academic All-MW teams. Sports recognized include baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, women’s gymnastics, softball, women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field.
