Brown Leads Spartans in Double Overtime Loss at Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. - Emmett Brown threw for a career-high 375 yards and tied his career high with four touchdown passes to lead the Spartans (3-1, 1-0 MW) in a 54-52 loss in double overtime against Washington State (4-0, 0-0 Pac-12 ) from Gesa Field on Friday night.

  • Brown, on his return to his former school, went 35-54 with 375 yards passing, threw for four touchdowns, and ran for one TD in this game. 
  • Brown’s four throwing TDs bring his total for the season to 13, which now ranks first in FBS.
  • Brown’s 375 yards passing sets a new single-game season and a career-high for the redshirt sophomore. His four passing touchdowns match the career-best he set last week against Kennesaw State. 
  • Brown currently leads the Mountain West in passing yards and throwing TDs. 
  • Floyd Chalk IV led the Spartans in rushing in this game with 11 carries for 94 yards and two rushing touchdowns. 
  • Chalk IV’s two rushing touchdowns ties a single-game career best for the Grambling State transfer. 
  • Chalk IV burst through the middle for a 66-yard rushing TD in the first quarter, the longest rushing TD of his career.
  • Chalk IV currently leads the team with four rushing TDs on the season and his 66-yard rush was the Spartans' longest rush of the season for any player.

  • Nick Nash had 16 receptions for 152 yards with two touchdown catches in this game. Nash now leads the nation in TD catches with eight.
  • Nash has now recorded 33 receptions over his past two games and 50 receptions on the season.
  • Nash is now tied for fifth in SJSU history with 17 receiving touchdowns.
  • Nash now leads the nation in receiving TDs, receiving yards, and catches. 
  • Nash’s eight total touchdowns currently rank fourth in the country.
  • Nash’s 152 receiving yards in this game is the third game this season and second consecutive game the redshirt senior has eclipsed more than 100 yards receiving.
  • Nash’s two touchdown receptions adds to his Mountain West-leading total of eight.
  • Jordan Cobbs had eight total tackles, six solo, three for loss, and recorded his first two sacks of the season and his second interception of the season in this game. 
  • Cobbs’ sacks were the second and third, while his interception was the fourth of his career.
  • TreyShun Hurry had the big catch in this game, coming down with the TD grab late in the fourth quarter to give the Spartans the lead. 
  • Hurry had three receptions for 66 yards, and one TD grab in this game. Hurry’s touchdown reception was his first of the season. 
  • Jacob Stewart had seven receptions for 51 yards and caught a touchdown pass in this game, his second of the season.
  • Jordan Pollard and Amir Wallace led the Spartan defense with 10 total tackles each in this game. Wallace made eight solo tackles while Pollard made six solo tackles and tallied two tackles for loss.
