SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State football (2–4, 1–1 Mountain West) heads back on the road to Utah State (3-3, 1-1 Mountain West) on Friday at 6:00 p.m. (PT) on CBS Sports Network and KTRB 860 AM.
- The Spartans look for their first win in Logan, Utah, since Sept. 22, 2007, and back-to-back wins over the Aggies for the first time since beating the Aggies in 2007 and 2008.
- In the Spartans' two wins, SJSU has averaged 175.5 rushing yards and 278 passing yards. The Spartans averaged 88.1 rushing yards per game a year ago.
- The Spartans are averaging 6.0 yards per play this season and 6.7 yards per play in their last four games.
- At Wyoming (10/11), Walker Eget went 23-of-37 for 295 yards and tied a career-high with four touchdowns. Eget missed the majority of the second half, and against New Mexico (10/03), Eget went 26-of-30 for 334 yards and three touchdowns.
- In the last three games, Eget is 85-of-125 (68%) for 1,095 yards (365 passing yards per game) with 10 touchdowns and no interceptions. He has a QBR of 167.98 during that time.
- Eget completed 86.7 percent of his passes against New Mexico (10/03). The SJSU record for best completion percentage with at least 25 passing attempts was Kyle Reed, who completed 88.5 percent of his passes on Sept. 20, 2008.
- Danny Scudero, a San Jose native, leads the country in receiving yards (845), receiving yards per game (140.8) and receiving touchdowns with eight. He is also second in the country and first in the MW, with 50 receptions and averaging 8.33 receptions per game, and leads the MW with four touchdown receptions. Through six games last season, Biletnikoff Finalist Nick Nash had 806 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.
- Scudero has gone over 100 receiving yards in five out of six games at SJSU, and his 189 receiving yards against CMU (8/29) and 180 receiving yards at Wyoming (10/11) are the eighth and 11th most single-game receiving yards in the NCAA this season.
- Scudero has tied the SJSU record with four-straight 100-yard receiving games.
- According to PFF, Scudero is the fourth highest-ranked offensive player for the Spartans with a 75.4 grade. Eget is right above him with a 76.4 grade.
- Scudero broke the SJSU single-game record and tied the Mountain West record with four receiving touchdowns in a game at Wyoming (10/11). He also tied for the most receiving touchdowns in an FBS game this season with Omar Cooper Jr. of Indiana and Beau Sparks of Texas State.
- According to Stats Perform, Scudero became the third FBS player in the last decade to record at least four touchdown catches and 150 receiving yards in the first half of a game. The other two were Justin Jefferson (Dec. 28, 2019) and DeVonta Smith (Sept. 28, 2019).
- The Spartans have many Utah State connections. Coaches Michael Smith, Bojay Filimoeatu, and Al Lapuaho all played at Utah State. Filimoeatu, Lapuaho, and Associate Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Derrick Odum coached there. SJSU players Sione Nomani and Mata Hola were there, and current Utah State offensive coordinator Kevin McGiven coached at SJSU from 2018-24 and was the passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach at SJSU last season. Current Aggie Anthony Garcia was at SJSU in 2023, and senior analyst/tight ends coach Ali'i Niumatalolo is the son of SJSU Head Coach Ken Niumatalolo.
- Under Niumtatalolo, the Spartans have played 12 true freshmen and two redshirt freshmen in 19 games. In 2024, the Spartans played true freshmen Lamar Radcliffe, Makoni Manukainiu, Manny Serna, Noa Siaosi, Mathias Brown, and Greco Carrillo. In 2025, the Spartans have played true freshmen Tama Amisone, Tuli Tagovailoa-Amosa, Steve Chavez-Soto, Jase Nix, Jireh Moe, and Sir Autry. They've also played redshirt freshmen who had never played in a game before, Jaylen Thomas and Cayden Woolwine.
- Jalen Bainer has three interceptions in the last two games; Rocket Rahimi had back-to-back games last season with an interception.
- Bainer is the first Spartan to record two interceptions in the same game since Brandon Ezell on Oct. 4, 2019, also against New Mexico.
- Bainer is also the first Spartan to have three interceptions in two straight games since Ezell in 2019 did it with two against New Mexico and one against Nevada.
- After six games, the Spartans are first in the MW, averaging 309.0 passing yards per game and 12th in the country.
- Eget is first in the MW and fifth in the country, averaging 301.5 passing yards per game.
- Eget is first in the MW and seventh in the country, averaging 23.8 completions per game.
- The Spartans have recorded a takeaway in 18 of 19 games under Niumatalolo.
