MORAGA, Calif. — Rocco Caballero went 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead the San José State baseball team (3-6, 0-0 MW) in a 15-5 seven inning loss to Saint Mary’s (6-3, 0-0 WCC) on Friday afternoon from Louis Guisto Field at Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium in the second game of the four game series.

The Spartans opened the day by concluding yesterday’s game that was suspended in the 13th inning at 4-4 due to darkness. Saint Mary’s would score the winning run in the bottom of the 13th to take the opening game 5-4. Jesse Gutierrez received the loss on the mound.

In the Spartans’ second game of the series, SJSU struck first in the opening frame. After reaching on a walk and advancing into scoring position, Alex Fernandes came around to score on an RBI groundout by Brent Cota to give the Spartans an early 1-0 lead.

Saint Mary’s answered with four runs in the bottom half of the first and added another in the second to take control. The Spartans responded in the third inning when Caballero delivered a two-out, two-RBI double to left field, plating two and trimming the deficit to 5-3.

The Gaels broke the game open with four runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth. On the mound,starter Kyle Calzadiaz took the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) over 3.2 innings.
