LAS VEGAS – JC Osorio-Agard and Peyton Rowles each recorded three RBIs to lead the San José State baseball team (11-14, 2-2 MW) in a 18-7 loss to UNLV (16-10, 1-3 MW) Friday night from Earl E. Wilson Stadium in the first game of a three game series.
The Spartans struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a UNLV error to take a 1–0 lead. However, that advantage was short-lived as the Rebels answered immediately with two runs in the bottom half and another three runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 advantage.
San José State’s biggest moment came in the third inning. Rowles delivered an RBI single before Osorio-Agard launched a three-run homer to right field to tie the game. In the fourth, a two RBI single from Rowles gave SJSU a 7-5 advantage.

Despite that surge, the game turned decisively in the bottom of the fourth inning. UNLV erupted for 11 runs in a single frame, stringing together hits, capitalizing on walks, and taking advantage of defensive miscues.
Offensively, the Spartans collected nine hits, including multiple extra-base hits from Alex Fernandes. Jake McCoy and Brent Cota both also hit a double in the game.
On the mound, starter David Thomas was tagged with the loss after allowing early damage, and the bullpen was unable to contain UNLV’s momentum as the Rebels piled up 18 runs on 18 hits. Landon Marchetti recorded six strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief.
- Osorio-Agard’s home run was his third of the season and ninth of his career
- Rowles’ three RBIs tied his career-high
- Fernandes now has 12 multi-hit games this season
- Fernandes has reached base safely in all 25 games this season
- Marchetti’s six strikeouts was a career-high
UP NEXT: The Spartans will rematch UNLV tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Earl E. Wilson Stadium for the second game of the three game series. The game can be watched on Mountain West Network.
