Zach Tanner Season 2017

AT SAN JOSÉ STATE: Completed his second season with the Spartans… One of five seniors on the 2017 squad... Joined the team as a walk-on in the fall of 2015… 2016 Academic All-Mountain West honoree. 

2017: Appeared in 30 games out of the bullpen with a new sidearm motion... Tied for sixth in appearances in the Mountain West conference... Picked up first win as a Spartan against San Francisco (5/15) in his final home game... Picked up first save as a Spartan versus Fresno State (4/28), pitching two scoreless innings... Pitched a season-high 3.2 innings against Nevada (3/19).  

2016: Appeared in 15 games out of the bullpen… Posted a 0-2 record with a 6.17 ERA… Pitched a season-high four innings against Air Force (4/9), striking out a season-high four batters… Had three consecutive scoreless appearances against Stanford (4/12), New Mexico (4/16) and San Francisco (4/19) spanning 5.2 innings.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Played two seasons at Bakersfield (Calif.) College…As a sophomore in 2015, hit .358 with 14 doubles, a home run and a team-best 28 RBIs…Second in the Western State South Conference with a .423 average in conference games…A second-team all-conference selection.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, Calif. …Lettered three times for head coach Dan Lemon…As a senior in 2013, hit .393 with eight doubles, three home runs and 32 RBIs…Went 2-2 on the mound with a 4.42 ERA in 25.1 innings of work…An All-Southwest Yosemite League (SWYL) performer as junior and senior.
