Joe Sarcos has been a member of the San Jose State Athletic Performance Staff since 2017 when he first joined the Spartans as a volunteer assistant strength and conditioning coach. After a series of promotions over the next few seasons, he was named the Associate Head Coach for Athletic Performance in May 2021.
During his time with the Spartans, Sarcos has served as a volunteer, graduate assistant, assistant and interim head athletic performance coach. In his roles, he has developed and administered yearly training protocols for the physical preparation for softball, baseball, men's water polo, indoor/beach volleyball, track and field, and swimming and diving student-athletes consisting of strength/hypertrophy, injury prevention, speed and agility, energy system development, plyometrics and mobility. He has also assisted with the day-to-day operations for the physical preparation for football, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's soccer, including all strength and conditioning programs for off-season and in-season periods.
Sarcos is also responsible for managing the finances of the Athletic Performance department, including ordering equipment and post-training/practice supplements for all 22 sports, as well as overseeing the hiring of all full-time, part-time and intern employees.
Prior to his time at SJSU, Sarcos was a volunteer assistant for Arkansas State Strength and Conditioning in 2016. During his time in Jonesboro, Ark., he was involved in the implementation of the summer strength and conditioning programs for football and women's soccer, and assisted with the daily set up and distribution of nutritional services for football among many other duties.
Sarcos began his career in intercollegiate athletics as a student intern for the strength and conditioning program at Sacramento State in 2015-16. He earned his Bachelors' of Science, Kinesiology - Exercise Science from Sacramento State in May 2016. He is currently working on his Master of Arts, Kinesiology - Exercise Physiology from San Jose State University. Sarcos earned a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) in 2017 and is currently working towards Precision Nutrition (Pn1).
