Kelvin Lam was appointed San Jose State University[apos]s cheerleading head coach in 2011.
Formerly an all-women[apos]s activity prior to his appointment as head coach, Lam increased squad participation and now has San Jose State performing co-ed cheer stunts and routines.
In his first season with the Spartans, Lam coached an all-women stunt group to a second-place finish at the 2012 United Spirit Association (USA) Collegiate National Championship.
A marketing and international business major, Lam was on the cheerleading squads at Hawaii Pacific University and at the University of Hawaii. The 2009 Hawaii graduate was a National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) national champion for partner stunts and was a contributing team member in the University winning the Paula Abdul RAH! Cheerleading Bowl Championship that same year.
Lam was a member of the coed Team USA squad and is a three-time International Cheer Union (ICU) world cheerleading champion.
Fully immersed in the all facets of cheerleading, Lam founded Cheer Moxie, a full-service cheerleading company based in South San Francisco, Calif., and co-founded the Aussie Gold Cheer & Dance Coaches[apos] Conference held annually in Gold Coast, Australia.
Prior to taking the San Jose State coaching position, he coached a co-ed level 6 team to back-to-back national championships in 2010 and 2011 at JAMZ in Las Vegas. In 2012, he helped lead the all-girl level 6 team from Rebels Elite to The Cheerleading Worlds, run by U.S. All-Star Federation for cheer and dance teams.
Lam is a Level 5 credentialed instructor by the U.S. All-Star Federation (USASF) for cheer and dance teams and is safety certified by the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators (AACCA). A noted teacher, instructor and coach. Lam[apos]s international travels include conducting camps and workshops in Australia, Mexico and Japan.
