Adrianne Fass joined the San José State University women’s soccer team staff in the summer of 2014 as a volunteer assistant coach, she was appointed to assistant coach in July of 2015. The University of Florida graduate wrapped up her seventh season with the program in 2020.
In those seven seasons, Fass has helped guide the Spartans to two Mountain West Tournament Championships in 2015 and 2018, and also the regular season title in 2017. Entering the 2020 season, San José State's 35 Mountain West regular season wins in the previous six years tied for the most among the 12-team league and the Spartans were the only team to qualify for the last five Mountain West Championship Tournaments.
Along with head coach Lauren Hanson and the rest of the staff, Fass has helped guide 26 San José State players to All-Mountain West recognition including a trio of Defensive Players of the Year (Kristen Amarikwa - 2019, Darriell Franklin - 2017 and Zoe Makrigiannis - 2017) and one Newcomer of the Year in Jamilecxth Becerra (2017). In 2018, she helped guide a trio of Spartans to First Team All-Conference honors: Paige Simoneau, Darriell Franklin and Kristen Amarikwa.
Fass is responsible for player instruction, opponent scouting and match preparation. She coordinates team travel, and is also dedicated to assisting the team’s community relations outreach.
Fass came to the Spartans after serving as an assistant coach at Foothill College for five seasons. During that time, the Owls won Coast Conference championships in 2009, 2010 and 2012. The 2013 team advanced to the California Community College Final Four and finished ranked 17th nationally for two-year institutions.
Fass also held various coaching responsibilities and administrative positions with the De Anza Force Soccer Club of Northern California since 2001.
In her first season with the staff Fass helped lead the Spartans to an 8-8-3 overall record and 5-5-1 in Mountain West play. The .500 record came one year after the team finished 3-14-1 and 2-7-1 in conference play. The team doubled its offensive output in 2014, scoring 22 goals after just 10 went into the net in 2013. The defense also saw a huge lift, allowing 18 goals when the year before it gave up 33.
The 1999 graduate of the University of Florida majored in exercise and sports science. As a college player, she played on Gators teams that compiled a combined record of 82-11-3 during the 1995 through 1998 seasons, made three NCAA Tournament appearances and won the NCAA Championship her senior season in 1998.
An outstanding defender, she was an honorable mention All-America choice by Soccer Buzz as a sophomore, a two-time all-region selection and a two-time, second-team All-Southeastern Conference pick. She was named her team's Most Valuable Player as freshman as Florida shutout 11 opponents that season.
Fass currently holds United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Class C, B and A coaching licenses and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Director of Coaching License. She is a past recipient of the USSF's Robert McNulty Award given to the coach who best exemplifies performance, attitude and devotion when earning the Federation's Class C coaching license.
