Fresno, Calif. - The San José State women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the first day of the Bulldog Invitational ahead of host Fresno State and Boise State with a total of 361 points.
"We are very pleased with our team performance today.," said head coach Sage Hopkins. "It's been almost eight months since we have competed as a team, and it's nice to finally get our season started. I'd like to also congratulate our three divers for a great performance, with Cari qualifying for post season in her first collegiate competition.
In the first race of the day, San José State's "A" team of Michaela McLean, Taylor Solorio, Brenna Bushey, and Brynne Beneke finished first in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:44.62. The Spartans also took third in the relay with a time 1:48.15.
Freshman Brenna Bushey collected her second first place finish as she touched the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 23.73. McLean finished fourth with a time of 24:12, while Beneke finished fifth at 24:24.
In the final event of the day, the 800-relay team of Solorio, McCormick, Hammond, and Riley Spitser finished second with a time of 7:35.00. The Spartans also took fourth place thanks to the team of Colleen Humel, Amber Nelson, Michelle Berry, and Alli Davis touching the wall in 7:40.00.
In her first collegiate diving competition, Cari Reiswig, walked away finishing first out of eight divers in the 1-meter board with a score of 291.65.
San José State will conclude the two-day Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, October 11, starting at 10:00 a.m.
