Colorado Springs, Colo.----- Forty-nine San José State University student-athletes from the fall sports of football, women's volleyball, women's soccer and men's and women's cross country earned 2014 Academic All-Mountain West honors.
These Spartans are part of the 522 student-athletes from the 11 full conference members and the University of Hawaii in football and Colorado College in women's soccer to meet the Mountain West's criteria for enrollment, cumulative grade-point average and athletics participation.
For the second consecutive season, 16 San José State football players earned the Academic All-Mountain West honor. The women's soccer team was next with 15. Seven women's cross country, six volleyball and four men's soccer student-athletes round out the 49 San José State honorees.
Wide receiver Tim Crawley, defensive backs Dasheon Frierson and Akeem King, running back Shane Smith, tight end Jordan Thiel, and offensive linemen Evan Sarver and Wes Schweitzer are among the returning San José State football players that are two-time Academic All-Mountain West honorees.
Cross country runners Ben Branagh, Jannik Ernst, Matthew Stephens, Marissa Buckley and Rebecca Garcia; women's soccer players Alex Donaldson, Lupita Estrada, Alexandra Jimenez, Stephanie Rebagliati, Kareli Rodriguez and Alexis Venegas; and women's volleyball player Tyanna Roy are 12 more Spartans to earn their second Academic All-Mountain West award.
Student-athletes from Mountain West sports of basketball, baseball, golf, women's swimming and diving, softball, tennis and track and field that maintain a 3.00 or higher cumulative grade-point average and participate in at least 50 percent of their teams contests will honored after the conclusion of the spring semester.
