The 2015 season gets underway for the San Jose State University football team, Friday, March 6, with the first of 15 on-campus practice sessions.
Head coach Ron Caragher welcomes 45 letter winners and 15 returning redshirts from last year's squad. There are 14 starters on offense (8) and defense (6) plus kicker Austin Lopez and punter Michael Carrizosa back from the 2014 squad. Also, tight end Billy Freeman (15), linebacker Isaiah Irving (13) and defensive lineman Nate Falo (10) are three more players with 10 or more starting calls in a Spartan uniform.
Recent signees quarterback Kenny Potter from Long Beach City College, linebacker Frank Ginda from Pacheco High in Los Banos, Calif., and defensive lineman Loni Fa from Mount San Antonio College are among the newcomers participating in their first San Jose State spring practice.
New assistant coaches Al Borges, the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach; special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Dan Ferrigno; and offensive line coach Adam Stenavich joined the San Jose State coaching staff will be on the field, too.
The team's annual Spring Game, is Saturday, March 21, 3:00 p.m. in Spartan Stadium. The format of the game will be determined closer to kickoff.
The Spring Game will be the one practice day that is open to San José State fans and the media. Viewing opportunities for the remaining 14 practices are limited to pre-practice activities. There is no practice during the University's Spring Break week of March 23 through March 27
Weather-permitting, San Jose State's spring practice is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, April 8.
