COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— This spring, 85 San José State University student-athletes from 10 Spartan sports teams earned Academic All-Mountain West honors, as announced by the conference office.
The baseball team led the sports with the most award winners with 16 student-athletes, followed closely by women's swimming and diving with 15. Two other teams had double-digit student-athletes honored –softball with 12 and women's track & field with 11.
A Spartan record 11 spring student-athletes earned Academic All-MW honors for the fourth time in their career at San José State – Jonathan Clark, Jack Colette and Ben Polack (BASE), Cydni Lewis (WBB), Antonia Malate and Natasha Andrea Oon (WGOLF), Caroline Bowman and Alyssa Graham (SB), Daria Cocol and Shelby Mullendore (WSW) and Alba Pedrero Galindo (WTN). They join seven student-athletes from the fall sports who also received the honor for the fourth time – Cade Hall, Brendan Manigo, Tysyn Parker, Christian Webb and Tre White (FB), Karlee Pottorff (WSOC) and Haylee Nelson (VB). Football player Jack Snyder was the only Spartan this year to receive five awards.
For the 2021-22 academic year, 186 Spartans earned academic all-conference recognition from the Mountain West (15 sports – 148) Western Athletic Conference (men's soccer – 6), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (women's water polo – 8; women's gymnastics - 10) or the Golden Coast Conference (men's water polo – 14).
To qualify for Academic All-MW, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic semester at the institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The student-athlete must have competed in 50 percent of the team's completed varsity contests.
In all, 1,266 student-athletes have been named to the spring 2022 Academic All-MW teams. Sports recognized include baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field.
