COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The San José State baseball team was picked second in the 2023 Mountain West Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced by the conference on Thursday. The Spartans received 27 points and two first-place votes. Only UNLV fared better in the poll with 33 points and four first-place votes.
In the same announcement, Hunter Dorraugh, Darren Jansen and Charles McAdoo were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
Hunter Dorraugh, Redshirt Sophomore, Vacaville, Calif./Vacaville High School
- Named twice as the Mountain West Player of the Week (2/28/22, 3/21/22)
- Led the team in home runs and tied the SJSU single-season home run record with 15 homers in 2022
- Finished second in the Mountain West in home runs in 2022
- Hit .455 with a home run, triple, double and a pair of singles to help the Spartans sweep San Diego State in March
- Made only two errors with 218 putouts last season
- Finished the season with 52 hits, 53 runs and 43 RBIs
- Finished fifth in the conference in the season with 38 BB's
Darren Jansen, Redshirt Junior, Right Handed Pitcher, Fresno, Calif./Bulland High School
- 2022 First Team All-Mountain West
- Led the pitching staff with an ERA of 4.67 in 2022, the sixth best ERA in the Mountain West
- Posted a record of 9-2 which was good for second in the conference
- Finished the season with 57 strikeouts, 61.2 innings pitched and 31 appearances
- Recorded his first shutout after throwing four strikeouts and pitching 3.1 innings against Portland (2/27/22)
- Threw a career-high 5.0 innings pitched against UNLV (3/26/22)

In 2022, the Spartans had a historic season as they secured a 30-win season for the first time since 2011 and made it to their first ever Mountain West Championship game. The Spartans open the 2023 season on the road against Loyola Marymount on Friday, February 17 at 6 p.m.
