Kevin Cummings was named San Jose State University's wide receivers coach in January 2017 and coached four seasons with the Spartans. He joined the staff after three seasons as Oregon State University's quality control coach for wide receivers.
Cummings coached one of the most productive wide receiver groups in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in 2019. His receivers caught 216 passes for 17 touchdowns. The team's top three pass catchers, Tre Walker, Bailey Gaither and Isaiah Hamilton, each had a breakout season. Walker was a first-team All-Mountain selection and was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list. Gaither received honorable mention All-Mountain West honors. Hamilton had the most receptions by a San Jose State freshman since 2013.
As a player, Cummings was a wide receiver and special teams player on the 2010 through 2013 Oregon State teams. He went on to play for the Edmonton Eskimos and the Ottawa Redblacks during the 2014 Canadian Football League season.
His playing career also includes two championship experiences with USA Football. He was a wide receiver for the 2009 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Under-19 World Championship team. In 2015, Cummings played for USA Football's Men's National Team that won a world championship.
The 2014 Oregon State University graduate majored in business entrepreneurship.
A native of Los Angeles, he and his wife, Nellie, have a daughter, Malia.
