Arielle Wideman is an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the San José State women’s basketball program, beginning her time with the Spartans on June 1, 2018.
Wideman’s primary on-court responsibilities are coaching the team’s point guards as well as opponent scouting. Off the court, she leads the daily operations of the program’s community outreach and will be the recruiting coordinator for the 2021 class.
Wideman's first two years with the Spartans saw the program earn the nation's largest single-season win turnaround, improving from six wins on the 2018-19 season to 19 victories for the 2019-20 campaign.
She came to San José State after a nearly two-year stint on the women’s basketball staff at Prairie View A&M University. While at Prairie View, she served as a graduate assistant and was involved in all aspects of game-day operations, including opponent scouting and film exchange. She oversaw student managers and practice players, while also planning and coordinating all official and unofficial student-athlete campus visits. In addition, Wideman planned and coordinated the program’s travel.
Wideman is a 2014 graduate of the University of Nevada where she competed for the Wolf Pack women’s basketball team for four seasons. She finished her collegiate playing career ranked third in program history with 383 assists. Her .774 free throw percentage and 121 games played are the ninth highest on the team’s career list. In addition, her 136 assists in her senior campaign and 12 assists against CSU Bakersfield in 2012 rank sixth on the single-season and single-game lists, respectively. Following her senior season, she was named an All-Mountain West performer.
After graduation, Wideman spent the 2015 season playing professional basketball. As a member of Breidablik, in Iceland’s Domino’s League, she averaged 18.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
In 2018 she was awarded her master's degree in educational administration from Prairie View with Summa Cum Laude honors.
