Subrina is passionate and determined Intercollegiate learning specialist with the lens of access,
equity diversity, and inclusion, with 10+ years of experience in public education and 6-plus years in
higher academics. Subrina advises student-athletes on the women’s tennis team, men’s track & field, cross
country, and the men’s golf team.
Subrina works to ensure student-athletes meet NCAA regulations regarding academic eligibility,
assists in career development, performs one-on-one counseling with student-athletes, and advises
on general university policies and procedures.
Subrina is headed into her sixth year at SJSU and her sixth year as a learning specialist. In her
current role, she serves as the learning specialist for all student-athletes who may need
additional academic support. She holds individual weekly meetings with student-athletes to teach
them how to set and work toward learning objectives and recognize how they best learn. She
assists students in developing and strengthening their skills in the areas of test-taking, writing,
organization, time management, critical thinking, problem solving, and communication.
Subrina also has been the coordinator for the Student-Athlete summer bridge program to increase
academic success for our incoming student-athletes. Subrina is responsible for proactively
identifying learning concerns and serves as a liaison to university resources, including the
Accessible Education Center (AEC) and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
She collaborates with many academic resources on campus, including the Writing Center, the
Wellness Center, and Peer Connections. In addition, she collaborates across campus with the
Cultural Centers, Office of Inclusivity and is part of the Black Spartan Advisory Council.
Subrina earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from San José State
University. She also has her Master degree in Education Counselor from San José State
University.
