Stutzmann joined San José State in 2024 as the Senior Offensive Analyst after two years at Utah Tech, where he was the Passing Game Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach last season and the Wide Receivers Coach in 2022.
In January of 2025, Stutzmann was named wide receivers coach. In his first season as wide receivers coach, wide receiver Danny Scudero earned All-Mountain West First Team honors and was named a Biletnikoff Award Semifinalist, plus was named to numerous All-American second teams. Scudero finished the regular season leading the nation with 1,291 receiving yards and 107.6 yards per game—the fifth-highest single-season total in SJSU history. His 88 receptions rank third in program history, fourth nationally, and first in the Mountain West. Scudero also recorded 10 touchdowns, tied for the fifth-most in a single season at SJSU and 10th nationally.
Wide receivers Kyri Shoels and Leland Smith were each named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention selections. Shoels concluded his first FBS season with 59 receptions for 768 yards and two touchdowns, ranking fourth in the conference in receptions and fifth in receiving yards. Smith posted career highs with 43 receptions for 688 yards and three touchdowns, finishing eighth in the Mountain West in receiving yards and 12th in receptions.
The Spartans ended the regular season as the only school in the country to have three different receivers have 100 or more receiving yards in the same game twice during the season.
In 2024, Stutzmann helped coach the offense to 4,183 passing yards, which was good for first in the Mountain West Conference and fifth in the nation, averaging 321.8 yards per game. The 4,183 passing yards are good for third in San José State's single-season history.
Stutzmann also helped wide receiver Nick Nash become the first unanimous All-American in SJSU history on his way to being the first SJSU Biletnikoff Award Finalist and only the fourth player in FBS college football history to earn the regular season triple crown by leading the country in receptions (104), yards (1,382), and touchdowns (16).
In 2022, Stutzmann mentored former UT receiver Joey Hobert, who finished ninth in the Stats Perform Walter Payton Award balloting after he finished the season as the 2022 FCS national leader in receiving yards (1,258 - UT school record) and touchdown receptions (16 - UT school record) on his way to All-America honors.
Stutzmann joined the UT program after three seasons at the United States Naval Academy. In 2019 he was part of an offensive staff that not only saw the Midshipmen lead the nation in rushing, but also finish second nationally in average yards per catch (22.51 ypc) and seventh in passing efficiency (176.92).
Stutzmann came to Navy from his alma mater, Hawai’i, where he was an offensive assistant coach and worked with the wide receivers. One of his receivers, John Ursua, led the nation in receiving touchdowns (16) and was fifth in receiving yards (1,343). Hawai’i finished ninth in the country in passing, averaging 310.3 yards per game.
Prior to his coaching stint at Hawai’i, Stutzmann coached the running backs at Western New Mexico College in 2014, the secondary at Emory & Henry in 2015, the wide receivers at Emory & Henry in 2016 and was the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Emory & Henry in 2017.
Stutzmann played four years of college football as a wide receiver at Hawai’i, catching 148 passes for 1,845 yards and nine touchdowns.
He was a prep standout at the prestigious Saint Louis School in Honolulu, where he played alongside 2014 Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota. Stutzmann was a three-time all-state selection at wide receiver.
Coach Stutzmann graduated with a degree in psychology from Hawai’i in the fall of 2013. He and his wife, Shanelle, are the parents of an infant daughter, Savannah.
His brother is San José State Offensive Coordinator Craig Stutzmann.
