Consecutive road wins a goal:  San Jose State has its first opportunity this season to win back-to-back road games in an eight-day span with the Colorado State game. A Spartan win would give San Jose State its third occurrence of winning road games on successive weekends since 2012.
Youthful look in Hawai'i victory: When San Jose State's preseason camp began in early August, it was a team with 22 seniors and 11 all-conference players back from an 11-2 win-loss record, a Military Bowl win and a national ranking. Seventeen of the 22 seniors were listed in the preseason depth depth chart.
At Hawai'i, 14 players with freshman status contributed to the 37-27 win. Six (RB Tim Crawley, WR Tyler Winston, TE Billy Freeman, OLBs Eugene Taylor and Isaiah Irving and LB Christian Tago) were in the starting lineup. Freeman, running back Jarrod Lawson and Winston accounted for three of San Jose State's four touchdowns. Lawson, Crawley and Thomas Tucker combined to rush 45 times for 230 yards and a touchdown. This season, 17 freshmen played in at least one game. Besides the six that started in the Hawai'i game, tight end Andrew Vollert and linebacker Moses Saucedo were starters in the Sacramento State season opener.
Season highs in Hawai'i win: San Jose State produced season bests in points scored, total offense, rushing yardage and takeaways in its 37-27 at Hawai'i. Two school records at Hawai'i: Wide receiver Chandler Jones and cornerback Dasheon Frierson entered the San Jose State recordbook during the Hawaii game. Jones' 19th career touchdown reception came on a 61-yard pass play. He moved out of a tie for first place with Edell Shepherd who had 18 during the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Frierson established a new single-game mark for most pass break-ups. He came up with his first interception and broke up for four passes including a two-point conversion try in the fourth quarter to keep San Jose State's lead in double digits. The previous single-game school record was four held by several players including Bene Benwikere whom Frierson replaced in the starting lineup at Hawaii.
