COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— This spring, 91 San José State University student-athletes from 10 Spartan sports teams earned Academic All-Mountain West honors, as announced by the conference office.
The baseball team led the sports with the most award winners with 16 student-athletes, followed closely by women’s swimming and diving and women’s track and field with 15 each. Softball also had double-digit student-athletes honored with 10.
Five Spartans received the honor for the fifth time in their career this spring, joining football player Tre White and volleyball player Haylee Nelson who accomplished this feat last fall.

Eight other Spartans earned Academic All-MW honors for the fourth time in their career at San José State.

For the 2022-23 academic year, 181 Spartans earned academic all-conference recognition from the Mountain West (15 sports – 137) Western Athletic Conference (men’s soccer – 6), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (women’s water polo – 10; women’s gymnastics - 9), Golden Coast Conference (men’s water polo – 12) and Southland Conference (beach volleyball – 7).
To qualify for Academic All-MW, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic semester at the institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The student-athlete must have competed in 50 percent of the team’s completed varsity contests.
Student-athletes named to the spring 2023 Academic All-MW teams are from the following sports recognized - baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field.
