As the Senior Deputy Director of Athletics, Dr. Rob Clark assists in the day-to-day operations of the San José State Athletics Department, leads Athletics Development and all revenue generation areas, and serves as the sport administrator for football, men's golf and women’s gymnastics. In 2021, Clark served on the search committee that named Tim Miles as the head coach of San José State men’s basketball.
Clark led the successful launch of One Spartan Nation, a unified fundraising, ticket sales, and sponsorship platform for San José State Athletics. Since the launch, membership has nearly doubled and numerous capital projects have been funded by incredible donors (Spartan Athletics Center, Baseball Practice Facility, and Soccer Grandstands). Building upon the 2020 Mountain West Championship football success, Clark drove the launch of the Dick Vermeil Fund for Football Excellence to continue championship support for Spartans Football.
Prior to San José State, Clark served as the Executive Sr. Associate Athletics Director at Long Beach State, where he led all revenue-generating areas (external relations, athletics development, ticket sales and operations, corporate sales, marketing and promotions, media relations, the creative services) and was the sport administrator for baseball and men’s basketball. Clark and his team secured naming rights for Long Beach State's baseball stadium, collected a record fundraising year, several record sponsorships deals, and collected the highest ticket sales revenue in school history.
Prior to Long Beach State, Clark was the Sr. Associate Athletics Director at Georgia State University, Assistant AD for major gifts at the University of New Mexico, Associate AD of Development at Angelo State University, and special assistant to the Sr. Associate AD at Texas A&M. He also worked as a financial consultant for athletics departments around the nation moving up to the Football Bowl Subdivision level.
Clark is a fourth generation former student-athlete and native of Salt Lake City, Utah. He played football at Utah State before finishing his career at Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he was named a team captain. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Occidental and earned his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
Clark and his wife Emily have three children – Annie, Kate and McCoy.
