Colorado Springs, Colo.----- Forty-six (46) San Jose State University student-athletes from five sports were named to the Fall 2015 Academic All-Mountain West team.
The Spartans' men's cross country and women's volleyball teams each had more than half their team members named Academic All-Mountain West. Football (15) and the 2015 Mountain West Tournament champion women's soccer team (12) are the two San Jose State programs with 10 or more honorees.
Nine Spartans - Tim Crawley, Evan Sarver, Wes Schweitzer, and Shane Smith from the 2015 AutoNation Cure Bowl champion football team; cross country runners Ben Branagh, Jannik Ernst and Karina Nunes; Alexis Venegas from women's soccer and volleyball player Tyanna Roy earned their third Academic All-Mountain West award.
Jamie Hirai, Allison Meehan, Yavianliz Rosado from volleyball; Myia Wilkes, Darlene Rodriguez, Dorthe Hoppius, Rachel Docherty and Claire Berkley from women's soccer; Jennifer Beckingham, Melanie Fujiwara and Diana Orozco from women's cross country; Craig Huff from men's cross country; and football's Chris Gonzalez and Nate Velichko are the 14 San Jose State fall sports student-athletes are two-time Academic All-Mountain West award winners.
To earn Academic All-Mountain West recognition, a student-athlete must complete at least one semester at the conference institution, maintain a 3.00 or better cumulative grade-point average and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's contests for the season.
The Mountain West conveys the Academic All-Mountain award after the fall and spring semesters. The Mountain West named a conference-record 567 student-athletes to the Fall 2015 Academic All-Mountain West team. Fall sports include men's cross country, women's cross country, football, women's soccer and women's volleyball.
