Academic All-Mountain West

Colorado Springs, Colo.----- Fifty (50) San Jose State University student-athletes from five sports were named Academic All-Mountain West Conference for the 2013 fall season.

The Spartans were a meaningful portion of a conference record 534 student-athletes that met the criteria of completing at least one academic term at the Mountain West member while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and participating in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions.

The football program accounted for nearly one-third of the San Jose State's total with 16 honorees. The women's soccer team was next with 14 - the third highest number among the 10 conference-playing members. Eight of the 12 players on the women's volleyball team, six of nine men's cross country and six women's cross country runners comprised the remainder of the Spartans to be the first in school history to be named academic All-Mountain West.

The conference office will name more student-athletes to the Academic All-West team following the spring sports season.
