COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— A school-record 85 San José State University student-athletes received a 2021-22 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award for their performances in the classroom during their athletic career.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for the award this year, student-athletes must have completed at least one semester at the institution and have a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average while being a member of an intercollegiate team.
The Spartan student-athletes represent 15 sports, led by women's soccer with 14 honorees, followed by football with 13, women's swimming and diving with 11, and women's golf and women's track and field with seven each.
Three Spartans have the distinction of receiving four MW Scholar-Athlete recognitions – Antonia Malate (WGolf) and Daria Cocol and Shelby Mullendore (WSW).
The Spartan Scholar-Athletes helped the Mountain West to a new league-record 1,427 student-athletes recognized.
