San Jose, Calif.—Taylor Chan won three titles Friday night as the San José State women's gymnastics team competed at The Event Center for the first time this season. The Spartans finished the meet with a 191.700 team score.
Chan won the beam with a season-best 9.850, the floor with a 9.900 and the all-around at 39.075. She added a 9.750 on vault and a 9.575 on bars.
Stephanie Relova also had a nice meet for SJSU, finishing third on bars at 9.750 and tying for third on beam at 9.800.
With dads and daughters, local club gymnasts, alums, and Spartan supporters in the arena, the team showed improvement as the meet progressed. SJSU started the night on the vault with a 47.650, led by Chan's 9.750. Relova then led the bar team to a 47.550. Despite having to count a fall on beam, the Spartans continued the scoring improvement with a 48.050. The floor team finished the night with the best event score at 48.450.
The Spartans return home next Friday, February 1, for Alumni Night at The Event Center. The team hosts UC Davis and Boise State beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the Spartan Ticket Office at (408) 924-7589.
